The Dharma Bums - Stand-alone Book / Scrolls

Each panel / scroll is 1.5 metres long and 12 centimetres high. It is painted onto 300gsm Fabriano paper. This is an alternative book of the Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac. It consists of illustrations describing the happenings in the book accompanied by handwritten text which is all directly quoted from the book, although not the full text it is chronologically relevant. The decision to work on scrolls was to reflect the way Kerouac used scrolls to continuously type, and from the influence from Zen painting which is a major theme in the book. All the mid-tones are painted in wine due to its influence on Kerouac and it's consistency in the book. All the calligraphy was done with a hand made bamboo dip pen.
